Robert Forster’s Music Jamboree Playlist: 29/11/12
Although it’s not available via wireless (AM radio) in Victoria, I have managed to keep up with Richard Fidler’s Conversations program via wireless (internet router) over the past couple of years. Quality is highly dependent on guests but there are some golden yarns. For those with a musical bent I can recommend chats with Mark Evans (Original bass player in AC/DC), Mike Chapman (Produced Blondie’s Parallel Lines etc.) and Robert Forster.
In the Forster interview from 2010 he talks about some of the early, original pop music of Australia which is pretty great. Plenty of tracks that are quite tough to get hold of as well as some local musical history that doesn’t often get told. While the ABC have made a big deal about the fact they aren’t allowed to include the songs on the online version, they seem to have forgotten to edit them out in this case. So enjoy while you can.
Unfortunatley, the web lackeys have remembered to edit the tracks out of the most recent Conversation from November 2012, so I have put together a Spotify playlist below. The focus here is on ‘adult pop’ from the late sixties and early seventies and the adult themes sneaking into the lyrics of a particular generation of charting performers and writers through the period. Perfect road tripping fodder while the season is still with us
